Holy Week: Maundy Thursday

Worship will begin with a remembrance of Jesus’ Last Supper and sharing in Holy Communion. The sanctuary will then be stripped as we begin the Tenebrae part of the service. Tenebrae literally means darkness or shadows. During this part of the service, Jesus’ suffering and death will be remembered as we extinguish candles and the sanctuary lights are dimmed. Watching the sanctuary stripped and experiencing the slow descent of darkness and the noise that signifies the closing of the tomb create a powerfully moving experience of sadness and appreciation for what Jesus endured for us. As Christians, it is by walking the way of the cross that we are then able to experience the true joy of resurrection life! The Chancel Choir and Shepherds of Sound are joining together to musically lead this meaningful service.
