Reading the Bible Day 251

Hello friends! Today we continue on in the gospel of Mark and you'll continue to notice some similarities but also notice that the story isn't very padded out. Mark says the same thing as Matthew except in half the words which I'm sure you wish you had a Mark preaching to you instead of a Nick sometimes! haha! Hope you enjoy today's reading and found some newfound insight about Jesus and God in it.

Questions to Consider

  1. The calling of Jesus disciples is slightly different here....in Matthew he seems to find the original 12 first and then the crowds follow. In this scenario it seems Jesus has a crowd already and designates 12 from the crowd. What traits do you think one must have shown to be selected? Do you share those traits?

  2. Jesus teaches in parables that are relatable to those whom he was teaching. If Jesus were teaching us today what kind of modern examples could you come up with?

Today I have a video from the Bible project that is a word study video on what "Gospel" means. I invite you to check that out for some additional learning and why we call these 4 books "the good news" :)

Praying the Hymns

Our prayer for today is inspired by hymn 251 in our UMH - Go Tell it on the Mountain. Yup, smell that campfire burning because we've got ourselves a classic campfire song! But I have the absolutely funkiest version of it I think anyone can find to share with you today. I dare you to try and get through this and not bob and weave to the music and have smile cross your face. My man has got some SSOOOUUULLLL. This is the kind of joy we should have when God comes into our world and dwells among us!

While shepherds kept their watchin' Over silent flocks by night Behold throughout the heavens There shone a holy light

Oh, I said Go, tell it on the mountain Over the hills and everywhere Go, tell it on the mountain That Jesus Christ is born

The shepherds feared and trembled When lo! Above the earth Rang out an angel chorus That hailed our Savior's birth

And down in a lowly manger Our humble Christ was born And God sеnt us salvation On that blessed Christmas morn'

Oh, I said Go, tell it on the mountain Over the hills and everywhere Go, tell it on the mountain That Jesus Christ is born

Ooh, yeah Go, tell 'em on the mountain (Go, tell 'em on the mountain)

(Oh-oh)

I was a lonely seeker I sought both night and day And I asked the Lord to help me And he showed me the way

He made me a watchman Upon a city wall And if I am a Christian I am the least of all

So, I said Go, tell it on the mountain Over the hills and everywhere Go, tell it on the mountain That Jesus Christ is born
