Reading the Bible Day 332

Hello friends! Today we're going to power through 2 Timothy in its entirety. Honestly, that will be the case for the next few days until we get to Hebrews where we'll slowly walk through that one. To those that participated in the Bible Study on Monday you might recall that Matt shared that Timothy seems to be too organized in church hierarchy in comparison to the other epistles. 2 Timothy is a great example of that and you'll get the chance to read all of that at once. For these reasons it is suggested that this was likely written by a student of Paul's at a much later time or it was one of the last letter written when the churches were a little more organized. Up to you on which way you lean! Either way there is good news in this so let's find out!

Questions to Consider

  1. What is the major theme or the point of this letter? What about that feels applicable today?

  2. This letter features a number of well loved and known scripture passages. Which lines of scripture in today's reading do you find comforting, inspiring, or otherwise meaningful?

To those of us who are visual learners I encourage you to check out Bible Project's overview video which always does a great job at explaining not only what the themes of the book itself are but also any neat literary techniques are used and how this fits into the larger canon. Enjoy!

Praying the Hymns

Our prayer for today is hymn 332 in our hymnal - Spirit of Faith, Come Down. I invite you to join close out this time of study with giving praise to God through song.

1. Spirit of faith, come down, reveal the things of God, and make to us the Godhead known, and witness with the blood. 'Tis thine the blood to apply and give us eyes to see, who did for every sinner die hath surely died for me.

2. No one can truly say that Jesus is the Lord, unless thou take the veil away and breathe the living Word. Then, only then, we feel our interest in his blood, and cry with joy unspeakable, "Thou art my Lord, my God!"

3. O that the world might know the all atoning Lamb! Spirit of faith, descend and show the virtue of his name; the grace which all may find, the saving power, impart, and testify to humankind, and speak in every heart.

4. Inspire the living faith (which whosoe'er receive, the witness in themselves they have and consciously believe), the faith that conquers all, and doth the mountain move, and saves whoe'er on Jesus call, and perfects them in love.
