Reading the Bible Day 22

Good morning and a very happy Monday to you. Today's scripture might just be the perfect thing to hear if you find yourself burnt out or buried by all the tasks you have set before you. Jethro, Moses father-in-law has some lessons for Moses, for you, and totally for me. Let's check out what that is together 😁

Questions to Consider

  1. What does this scripture teach you about God?

  2. What does this scripture teach you about people?

  3. What about this scripture is speaking directly to you today?

- My Thoughts -

I have a feeling that this section of Moses isn't original, but that is purely a gut feeling and not confirmed by scholarship. My reasoning for this is because they mention the Ark of the Covenant and the stone tablets (10 commandments) but we are not there yet. (exodus 20) so I have a feeling this was inserted in after the fact. I like the song that they sang about God's liberation, the way it repeats over and over about uses such creative language for God's action with the water makes me imagine this is a group of people around a campfire under a starry night with plenty of wine to go around just dancing, clapping, and singing out with smiles on their faces. I like scenes like this because it's so anti "church" to me. The iconic church music is a blasting organ and some hymns, but the biblical songs seem to be sung to tunes that are upbeat and with instruments. Maybe the people of old hated contemporary music as much as current Christians do. ;) haha.

I'm not a musician, but I think it would be fun to write a song to God from my own perspective. Maybe join me in this challenge, and we could share our songs with our music staff and see if they can come up with a simple tune for it.

Prayer

Hallelujah to God, Hallelujah! I know that you are among us. How comforting that word is to me. Among. When I am happy and excited, I know that you are near me smiling as well. When I am scared, stressed, or anxious, I know that you are not far with a comforting hand. I do not deserve a God as good as you, but I am so blessed to know you are near. Hallelujah to the God that loves me, Hallelujah! Amen.
