Reading the Bible Day 210

Hello friends! Today we begin the book of Daniel. Daniel is a super neat read and if you attended Sunday school as a child or ever watched VeggieTales you probably know the famous story of the 3 men of God and the furnace. While that story is amazing visually, it's also a super powerful lesson on perseverance and devotion in the face of peer pressure and other stuff like that. In a culture that is increasingly less Christian (for better and for worse) this is a book that calls us to be both respectful but prideful of our faith. Let's jump in a see what it has to say!

Questions to Consider

  1. What does this teach me about God?

  2. What does this teach me about what was happening at the time? Does reading the text through a historical lens change it for me?

  3. What, if anything, feels applicable to today? What does it challenge me to do in response?

In lieu of my thoughts today I'll be sharing with you the overview video from the Bible Project to help paint of picture of where we are going with all of this. Enjoy!

Praying the Hymns

Today we will pray/sing hymn 210 in our United Methodist Hymnal - Today La Tierra (All Earth is Waiting)

I invite you to join in however you feel led! Lyrics can be found beneath the video.

All earth is waiting to see the Promised One, and the open furrows, the sowing of the Lord.

All the world bound and struggling, seeks true liberty; it cries out for justice and searches for the truth.

Thus says the prophet to those of Israel, "A virgin mother will bear Emmanuel," for his name is "God with us", our brother shall be, with him hope will blossom once more within our hearts.
