The United Methodist Church of Chagrin Falls offers many opportunities and activities throughout the year for adult Christian learning and spiritual formation, such as Bible studies, prayer breakfasts, music programs and fellowship.

Sunday School Sessions

Each Sunday morning two different ongoing Adult classes meet at 10 a.m.

Journey’s is led by our associate pastor, Nick Gliha. Journey’s seeks to expand upon the morning sermon by investigating historical, literary and canonical context to the scriptures used in service. The class tackles advanced techniques, but does so in an approachable and entertaining way! Bring your questions, your snacks and an open mind for there is fun to be had.

The Pillars and Bridges class is led by Ann Corson and offers more opportunities for discussion and spiritual growth, based on various books or videos. This class meets in room 101 off of Haris Hall. Ushers for the week will be happy to direct you to the classroom.

Both classes are stocked with coffeemakers and snacks and provide a safe space to ask questions and discuss answers with other adults who are curious about God, the Bible and how we live our faith.

New Member Classes

The United Methodist Church of Chagrin Falls is an active congregation that is always welcoming of visitors. Each spring and fall Rev. Lawson leads new member classes. The classes are designed to introduce people to the United Methodist Church and our congregation and are designed for Christian growth and involvement in the church. Following the classes, attendees are invited to formally join the church.

Music programs

Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir is open to singers 7th grade and older. We have a tremendously enthusiastic and gifted volunteer group which sings most Sundays, September through May. The group is friendly, dedicated, spiritual, a bit rambunctious and a lot of fun! The choir is an abundant source for fellowship and relationship building at the center of the church community. Many members have commented that the music is a central reason why they made Chagrin their church home.

The choir regularly sings at the 9 a.m. Sunday service and once a month at the 11 a.m. service. The group rehearses on Thursday evenings from 7:00-9 p.m.

The Chancel Choir is led by Rob Thorndike.  The choir sings a wide variety of music and new singers of all levels of experience are welcome to participate.

Shepherds of Sound (SOS)

Shepherds of Sound is our church Praise Team. SOS performs blended/contemporary music with keyboard, drum and guitar accompaniments.

SOS leads worship music twice a month at the 11 a.m. worship service, the early service on Christmas Eve, and also some of the summer 10 a.m. services.  The group rehearses weekly on Wednesday evenings and is directed by Karen Spisak.  New instrumentalists and singers with the ability to harmonize individually are welcome.

The Ringing Bells

The Ringing Bells is the volunteer hand bell choir of the United Methodist Church of Chagrin Falls. The Ringing Bells rehearse weekly on Tuesday mornings, and play three to four times a year during the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. services. We welcome anyone who desires to serve the church through music, is able to read music, is willing to learn the art of playing hand bells and wants to be in fellowship with other committed musicians. This group is led by Karen Spisak.

Fellowship & Fun

United Methodist Women (UMW)

The programs of the United Methodist Women include individual growth, spiritual enrichment, education for mission, social issues awareness, leadership development, and financial support for mission programs and projects locally, throughout the United States and worldwide.

We welcome all women to join us in building a supportive community of women; to be advocates for the oppressed and dispossessed with emphasis on the needs of women and children and to engage in activities that foster growth in the Christian faith, mission education, and Christian social action.

Our United Methodist Women currently have two ongoing mission commitments. We underwrite two scholarships in support of young girls at the New Horizon Methodist School in Lambare, Paraguay. Our UMW has sponsored the girls since they were in pre-school and continues the support in the elementary grades.

In addition, we annually sponsor two young women in the West Side Community House Summer of Sisterhood. This program on Cleveland’s west side provides experiences to stimulate the imagination, enhance the self esteem and guide the growth of young women in underserved and economically depressed Cleveland neighborhoods.

Within United Methodist Women are Circles or communities. These Circles are: Ida Goode, Lydia, and Rachel. These communities of women nurture and encourage one another in their spiritual growth, leadership, and transformation. And they present a unique opportunity for developing cherished personal friendships, educating ourselves for mission and to undertake smaller, more local mission projects.

The Chagrin Falls United Methodist Women invite you to participate in any project or program you believe to be significant or meaningful to you. Circles hold morning meetings, luncheon meetings, even social restaurant meetings. Please call the church office for details and to ask for a program booklet.

Line Dancing

To provide an opportunity for physical as well as spiritual wholeness, The United Methodist Church of Chagrin Falls sponsors a weekly Line Dancing group, which is open to any who would like to attend. Call the church office or check the church calendar for details and meeting times.

Tuesday Morning Prayer Group

Each Tuesday at 8 a.m. our Morning Prayer Group meets for a short devotional period followed by a delicious breakfast. Call the church office for further details.

Spirits Softball Team

Each Summer our “Spirits” softball team provides an opportunity for healthy recreation and good Christian fun. Call the Church office for details.
